How to plan a beach wedding

Maybe you and your fianc met in a beach town or perhaps you spend all your free time surfing together; you may just want a relaxed environment for your wedding celebration and have selected a beach theme to help encourage your guests to kick back and enjoy themselves. In any case, putting together a beach themed wedding can be incredibly fun and personalized when done right. Incorporating a beach theme, whether you are on the beach or just want to achieve the ambience, is realized primarily through your table decorations, reception dcor and favors.

For your table centerpieces, consider using something simple like uncut pineapple and coconuts, especially if you are actually at the beach; while the fresh fruit is fairly casual, it can enhance the authenticity of your theme. If you are indoors and would prefer to keep it a little more formal, use a series of seashell candles or close up shots in adorned picture frames.

Your reception dcor will automatically be a bit more casual. The hibiscus is a perfect beach flower that comes in lovely bright colors and is simple but strong enough to be used alone. If you want to go extremely casual, you can bring in your surf boards and tiki torches for a bona-fide beach bonfire. However, if you are indoors, use candles to create low lighting and a romantic atmosphere. Bring in decorative umbrellas over the tables and leave island papered cameras in various places for your guests to take candid shots.

Beach themed favors are not only fun, but many of them are practical. Give your guests a flip flop picture frame or key chain to remember your event; if you decide to use pineapple and coconuts as table decorations, send them home with your guests. Or package your favorite candy, lip balm or sunscreen and send it home with your guests in a miniature beach bag. The favors are where you can really make your theme shine; this is what your guests will take home and maybe even use when they go to the beach themselves.

Any wedding theme, casual formal, in an applicable setting or not should highly reflect your personal taste and character and really be fun for you to create. Choosing a beach theme is a particularly powerful choice not just because you have so many options, but because it is so easy to create a lively and exciting environment for your guests; who doesn't have a good time at the beach? If a fun and relatively informal party is what you are after for your wedding, a beach theme might suit you rather well. by Ashley Burr.
